About Roger

"I was born and raised right here in the community. I have spent my life here working as a public servant and I look forward to putting my experience as an attorney, Assistant District Attorney, and community volunteer to work as a Judge serving the people on the District Court."

Roger has served as an Assistant District Attorney since May of 2002 working to help residents overcome their stumbles while protecting our communities. 

He has also served as the legal counsel to a local city government and school board, as an Adjunct Professor at a regional college, and as a Law Clerk in the Louisiana Legislature. 

In addition to his public service work, Roger has also maintained his own small business law practice handling civil cases for residents in the community. 

Roger is the son of the late Roger P. Hamilton Sr , the former Supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance for Iberia Parish Schools and an educator for over 30 years, and Carmen Savoy Hamilton, the retired Secretary of the District Attorney’s Office. 

Roger was born and raised in St. Martinville and moved to New Iberia in 1986. His maternal Grandparents are the late Walter Savoy and Carmen Kerlegan. His paternal Grandparents are the late Samuel Hamilton (Farmer) and Mildred Simon. 

Relatives include Simons, Hamiltons, Kerlegans, Savoys, Charles, Pierres, Robertsons, Mallorys, and Fontenettes. 

When Roger is not serving the public in our region’s courthouses he is also serving the community by volunteering for local athletic programs. Roger has coached youth football, baseball, softball, soccer and basketball. 

“Whether it is the basketball court or the court of law my goal is just to give back to the community,” said Roger.
